Leadership Traits: Tact

There is one thing you should always remember during your interactions with other people, particularly if you are in a leadership position of any shape, or any form.  If you forget this one factor, you may as well hang up your hard hat, and go watch cartoons at home.  That factor is this: Each and every person is the center of their universe.

Each person is the most important person in that persons sphere.  The World that evolves around them is of paramount importance to them.  Their belief system is important.  The car they drive is important.  Their house is important.  What they do for recreation is important.  Their spouse, their children, their parents … all are important to them.

I don’t care if this isn’t cool, or not.  Hopefully, if you’re reading this, you’ve matured past the stage of the desire to sit at the cool kids table during lunch.  If you want to get the best out of people, if you want them to get the best out of themselves, treat them with respect.  Take their feelings into consideration when you talk to them.  How would you want to be treated if the tables were reversed?

Till next time, treat the people around you tactfully.  You, and they, will be glad you did.   Remember, you are spectacular.
